Originally settled as a tobacco farming village, Cabin John is an eclectic community, and one of Washington DC's oldest suburbs. Nestled on the banks of the Potomac River, and surrounded by woods and parkland, Cabin John is still only about 20 minutes from the nation's capitol. Cabin John Properties
Cabin John has existed as a community for over 80 years, but still, no-one is sure where the name came from. Some say Cabin John was a hermit who lived in the area; others contend he was a pirate who sailed up the Potomac to bury his treasure. Perhaps the most credible version is that "Cabin" John is a misspelling of "Captain" John, as in Captain John Smith, the first man to map the Potomac. Though there are not many cabins in Cabin John these days, there are certainly some fine homes. Beautiful colonial style mansions with wrap around porches, traditional farmhouses on forested lots, and custom designed homes overlooking the river. These homes—and the properties they stand on—must be seen to be truly appreciated.
